Welcome To 'Mrauk U' 🇲🇲
A grueling 27 hour bus journey north east of Myanmar's capital Yangon lie the incredible temples of Mrauk U. Today it's a sleepy town, dotted with monasteries and farms, but only 500 years ago Mrauk U witnessed Portuguese, Dutch and French traders rubbing shoulders with Bengal and Mughal princes. At its peak, Mrauk U controlled half of Bangladesh, modern day Rakhine State and the western part of Burma. As the city grew, many pagodas and temples were built. Several of them remain.
