On the eve of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, I have been encouraged by friends to take part in the traditions of Ramadan.
I'm not religious and I, admittedly, know very little about what Ramadan represents to the Muslim religion.
After watching a few short YouTube videos and having conversations with a friend, I've learned that Ramadan is actually quite beneficial to the mind and body. It's a time of reflection and self improvement.
Traditions of this month, such as abstaining from food and drink from sunrise to sunset; I will use as a way to feel solidarity with the millions of poor and hungry people on this planet who are fasting without a choice.
Ramadan is also a month of encouraged charity. I will continue to fulfill my pledge to volunteer for the donations made to reforesting the Amazon Rainforest through my site.
I'm excited to take part in this new experience with friends, and hope it will be as rewarding as it seems. I will be writing an account of this experience on my site at the end of Ramadan.
