After the school day ended Cara went to work. Then she picked up Mason and drove out to the English extra credit show. The drive home was quiet since Mason and Cara were listening to music. Cara sighed loudly as she pulled into his driveway. "What's wrong Cara?" Mason asked, truly concerned for his best friend. "It's..." Cara thought about telling her feelings. "It's nothing." She shook her head and looked away. After blinking away tears she let her mind wonder, her heart was telling her to kiss Mason but she couldn't bring herself to it. She was so scared. She knew if she kissed him then she would end up rolling down a cliff into a never ending pit of love and she didn't want to bare the heartache. Mason pulled her into an awkward car hug, the ones where the middle arm rest is digging into your rib cage but you deal with it because you're in the arms of someone you love. Cara sighed again as she smelled the familiar scent of cologne Mason always wore. She swore that it was like a potion. "Tell me what's going on?" Mason asked again as he rubbed her back. Cara waited a few moments, pulled back and looked into his eyes. "I don't know. It's stupid. We always get into these situations and it always looks like you want to kiss me but I know you don't because we're just friends and that's all we will ever be. But I don't know it's stupid I'm sorry." Cara blurred out and looked away as she felt tears trying to roll down her cheeks. Mason looked away but pulled her hand close to his chest. He traced circles on it with his thumb, calming Cara in the process. "You should go. It's almost 10 and I need to get home too." Cara said. Mason looked at the clock. "I've got 4 minutes. Give me a hug before I leave." Mason said and got out of the car.
