It's all about your mindset! ✨
It's all about what you focus your attention on. I used to be someone who struggled with this, I'd get so caught up in what was wrong that I'd loose sight of all that was right. ✨
A simple shift in what you focus your attention on is a game changer - I promise you 😍🙌🏻 Magic happens when you practice the art of gratitude! Try it, you'll see.
I recently picked up a copy of SL Huang's book Zero Sum Game, the first in the series featuring Cas Russell, a woman whose superhero power is that she's really good at math. Like, really, really good. Good enough that she can use it to calculate angles and trajectories, giving her the ability jump two storeys high, knock out baddies twice her size, and dodge bullets and laser sights, and shoot guns with unerring accuracy. But she finds herself up now against a powerful psychic with the ability to control people's minds (think Kilgrave from Jessica Jones but with a far more global master plan). •••
Can I just say the Russell's Attic books are seriously addictive. I pretty much bulldozed my way through all four books and I'm now eagerly anticipating the fifth. The action is fast-paced, the dialogue snappy and laugh-out-loud, the characters are incredibly likeable with hints of further development in their backstories, particularly with Cas. (I love her snarkiness, even when it inevitably becomes a downfall, plus the fact that in later books she gets put on "murder rehab" by all-round good guy/Cass's conscience Arthur Tresting, where she counts off the number of days she's gone without killing someone.)
There's also great racial diversity here - almost everyone is a POC and Cas herself is described as a "short, brown and stocky." •••
SL Huang first published these books as an indie author, citing her desire to make them available on Creative Commons. She's a super cool individual in her own right, having worked as a Hollywood stunt woman and firearms expert so you can rest assured she really knows what she's talking about when plotting action scenes. Tor Books has just acquired the North American rights to the series and I can just see the Russell's Attic books becoming a bestseller in the mainstream and maybe even becoming a TV series in the vein of Dark Angel or Orphan Black. Meantime, I'm hanging out for the next instalment in the series with bated breath.
